We are surrounded by toxins everyday! It is impossible to avoid all toxins but by making a few simple switches we can drastically reduce our exposure.
Switching to a non-toxic lifestyle can seem a little overwhelming and you may not know where to start. That is why we are sharing this blog post! Today we will be talking all about your kitchen.
Get rid of the Teflon!
These pans have a coating on them called polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) commonly known as teflon. Once it is exposed to high heat it can release toxins into your food, especially when it is scratched. Replace cookware with cast iron, stainless steel, or ceramic.
Ditch the aluminum!
Aluminum has been shown to cause neurological and cellular damage. When food comes in contact with the foil, the aluminum leeches into your food. This is especially dangerous when cooking your food in aluminum foil. Aluminum enters the body and stores in the muscles, organs, lymph nodes, and brain tissue.
Replace your cookware with cast iron, stainless steel, or ceramic. These products may be more pricey than Teflon but buying high quality cookware will last you a lifetime. We use cast iron pans made by Lodge.
Plastic
Last but certainly not least swap out all food storage containers to glass. Over time the chemicals in the plastic can release into your food. It is very sensitive to heat and will breakdown the compounds in the plastic quickly so whatever you do DON'T warm your food in plastic containers!! Switch those plastic storage containers to glass.
Don't overwhelm yourself trying to replace everything in your house all at once. Awareness is the first step to reducing your toxic load, now that you are aware you can work towards replacing some things in your life. Do a little bit at a time any changes are make are moving the needle in the right direction.
